Bisacodyl

Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative drug that works directly on the colon to produce a bowel movement. It is typically prescribed for relief of constipation and for the management of neurogenic bowel dysfunction as well as part of bowel preparation before medical examinations, such as for a colonoscopy. Bisacodyl is a diphenylmethane derivative and a modified triphenylmethane that has similarity to phenolphthalein. Under oral administration Bisacodyl is taken at bed time where it produces no action for more than two hours and then to work suddenly without much warning. If administered rectally in suppository form, Bisacodyl is usually effective in 15 to 60 minutes.
